The city of temples is a marvellous amalgamation of art, culture & architecture. The intricate designs can be witnessed in their various forms on the walls of the temples, in the confluence of beliefs & the daily lives of its denizens. The presence of the goddess itself makes it more essential to believe that the Ekamra Kshetra is nothing but a creation of the Colours of Life, Goddess Chitrakarini Herself.
Chitrakarini. The name literally means a woman who paints. If we were to analyze the word, there would be various perceptions & assumptions based on what we’re focusing on. As we are discussing the temple here, it is obvious to think of the divinity that is associated with it. Chitrakarini is said to be a form of Maha Saraswati, one of the Tridevi. She is worshipped in Hindu tradition as the goddess of knowledge, music, art, speech, wisdom, and learning.
The name “Saraswati” is considered to be the fusion of two Sanskrit words, saras (सरस्) + vati (वती) which is often translated as “She who possesses speech”. However, the Chitrakarini form of the goddess visualises Her as the creator/painter of life as a whole. It is said that this temple is world's only known temple, which is devoted to Goddess Chitrakarini.
Along these regions, Goddess Chitrakarini is worshipped & regarded as the Goddess of Creative Intellectual Activities. As indicated by social convictions, this temple is devoted to love and respect for women's contribution to the creation and upkeep of the human existence cycle on the planet.
The temple complex follows the panchayatan architectural form where the main temple is surrounded by 4 subsidiary temples. The exterior of the vimana and jagamohan are embellished with architectural, sculptural and floral motifs.
