सर्वमङ्गलमाङ्गल्ये शिवे सर्वार्थसाधिके।

शरण्ये त्र्यम्बके गौरि नारायणि नमोऽस्तु ते॥

It is said that Shiva is incomplete without Shakti. Hindu mythology says that after Shiva fled Kashi in search of peace & tranquillity, He entered His meditative stage at Gupta Kashi. The place was remote that even Goddess Parvati did not know of it. With some reference from Lord Brahma, She came to know about Ekamra Kshetra and decided to search for Lord Shiva.

While in Ekamra Kshetra, She noticed thousands of cows were gathering under a huge mango tree and automatically milking the place. She understood that Lord Shiva was behind this unique phenomenon. She disguised Herself as a Gopaluni & started living there & taking care of the cows. The place from which the cows would come was known as Gosahasreshwar or the present Gosagareshwar Temple.
