Bhubaneswar - Up, Close & Personal With QLS

Happy Birthday, Bhubaneswar!!!

The house of art, culture, history, heritage & more, the temple city of India, Bhubaneswar is celebrating its 73rd birthday. In 1948, the then Prime Minister of India, Shri Jawaharlal Nehru laid the foundation stone for the development of Bhubaneswar, one of modern India's first planned cities.

“Laying the foundation stone of this new city has been a task after my heart. To build a city is something happy to think of. To be associated with the construction of this city has been a thing, I appreciate most”, said PM Nehru after laying the foundation stone of the city.

Otto Koenigsberger, a noted German architect & urban planner, designed the first master plan of Bhubaneswar in 1948 with a population of 40 thousand in mind. Dating back to a history of 3000 years, Bhubaneswar derives its name from the word ‘Tribhubaneswar’ which means Lord of the Three Worlds referring to Lord Shiva.
